during september of 2020, i got the opportunity to create animated illustrations for Bentley Priory museum's exhibition, called "Defending Britian from Nazi and Nuclear Threat".
the main focus of the exhibition was the museum's secret bunker, which was extremelly crucial to British air defence from WWII and throughout the Cold War.
i was asked to illustrate and animate country flags, maps and different events from the cold war period. my animated illustrations were used in the exhibition's projected video, which was a timeline of cold war events. my illustrated gifs accompanied the text in the video.
i started off this project by playing a lot with my paintbrushes' textures. i wanted everything to look quite messy and sketchy because i felt like that perfectly defined cold war.

when i had the right textures, i was able to create all the cold war participant country flags out of those textures themselves.

after designing all the flags, i moved onto the maps. i had to animate a map of Berlin occupations and a map of three designated flight paths to Berlin during the cold war. these were the final outcomes:

some of illustrations regarding atomic bombs and the Berlin air lift, which were animated later for the video:

i also recreated posters from the cold war's protests, which were aimed to stop the use of nuclear weapons.
